X-Men anime US TV premiere on G4 this October

Posted in anime, Television with tags , , , , , , on September 15, 2011 by Pirate

The third Marvel anime TV series, X-Men, now has a US airdate. It will begin airing on the G4 Channel on October 21, at 11:00 PM ET. The anime will be the third Marvel anime to have aired on G4. In 2010 in Japan, Marvel and Madhouse teamed up to create four various Marvel anime, all of which were licensed in North America by Marvel Entertainment, and were set to air on G4. G4 is currently airing the first two Marvel anime, Iron Man and Wolverine, and are set to air the fourth, Blade, this winter.

The series is the fourth X-Men animated series, after X-Men: TAS, X-Men: Evolution, and Wolverine & the X-Men. In this show, after a member dies, the team disbands, only to be brought back together in order to find a missing girl in Japan.

The anime aired in Japan from April to June 2011 on Animax with 12 episodes. It was directed by Fuminori Kizaki (Afro Samurai, Basilisk) and animated by Madhouse (Death Note, Cardcaptor Sakura). In the dub, the protagonist, Cyclops, will be voiced by Scott Porter (Rex Racer in the Speed Racer film). He previously voiced Cyclops in the Wolverine anime.

Marvel confirms X-Men and Blade anime series

Posted in anime with tags , , , , , , , on December 23, 2010 by Pirate

Yup. I’ll probably watch these. Both anime series will air in Japan in 2011, and will air in America on the G4 channel, along with the Wolverine and Iron Man anime around the spring. Like Iron Man and Wolverine, X-Men and Blade will be animated by Madhouse (Death Note, Cardcaptor Sakura). Both anime are based on characters from Marvel Comics.

Anime that should air on Nicktoons/Nickelodian

Posted in anime with tags , , , , , , , on December 16, 2010 by Pirate

With Nicktoons having aired most of the Friexa arc of Dragon Ball Kai, I think that Nick should consider airing more FUNimation anime. It couldn’t hurt, and might even help ratings more, I think. The list of anime that I think Nick should consider are:

Dragon Ball Z (Buu arc) Well, because¬† if the rumors are true, and Kai ends after Cell arc, then Nick should air the final arc of DBZ, so that the kids watching have more closure and get to see the awesome Buu. Besides, I doubt the ratings would drop, since most of the people watching wouldn’t stop watching. If anyting, it would attract fans of the original anime.

Dragon Ball GT This would be the natural follow-up to DBZ Kai and DBZ. It makes sense. All the kids who watched DBZ would keep watching this because they don’t know any better, so I doubt ratings would drop. I’m just not sure how kids would react to the more “Adventure” themes at the beginning. Still, it would be a worthy addition to the Nicktoons action-lineup.

One Piece Well, if kids like the action/comedy/adventure of Dragon Ball Z/GT, then One Piece is similar enough that the marketing could attract potencial viewers, not to mention it has a very large fan-base, and that it has enough episodes to last a loooong time on the network. Besides, I doubt filler would bother kids since kids didn’t mind the filler from Naruto when it aired on Toonami.

Well, that was fast. TOHO announced that the eighth Naruto anime film, based on the ongoing manga series by Masashi Kishimoto, will open in Japan next summer. This will be the 8th Naruto film, and the fifth Shippuden film. The 7th Naruto film had opened in Japan this spring.

In North America, Viz Media hold the rights to the Naruto manga, anime, and films. Viz released the fourth Naruto film early this year, and is expected to release the fifth film next spring. For the 8th film, voice actress Junko Takeuchi will return as the voice of protagonist Naruto Uzumaki. This film has no title yet.

FUNimation to re-release YuYu Hakusho on Blu-Ray in 2011.

Posted in anime with tags , , , , , , , on December 12, 2010 by Pirate

Yes, you heard right. After almost a decade, one of FUNi’s first anime series will be getting a Blu-Ray release in season box sets. The first set will be released on March 2011, according to Right Stuf. About time, I say. I may have to finally buy the anime, since I really enjoyed the manga.

Yu Yu Hakusho is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter X Hunter, Level E) and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1994 and made 19 volumes, which Viz Media published under their Shonen Jump line-up. To this day, YuYu Hakusho remains known as one of the best Shonen Jump manga around.

The anime series ran from 1992 to 1995, and made 112 episodes. The series was animated by Studio Pierrot (Naruto, Bleach) and directed by Noriyuki Abe (Bleach, Flame of Recca). The anime, which was very popular, spawned two OVA from 1994 to 1996, and two films. The first was released in 1993, and the second in 1994. FUNimation has licensed the anime series, but the films were licensed by another company.

The series has also gotten novels, video games, CD’s, and art books.
