ScyFy to air Chrono Crusade!

Starting February 22, ScyFy Channel will air two episodes of the 2003 anime every Tuesday night on ScyFy’s anime block, Ani-Monday (now jokingly called Ani-Tuesday when it moved from Monday nights to Tuesday nights). The two episodes will air at 11:00 and 11:30 PM, follows by repeats of Gurren Lagann. This will be the first FUNimation anime to air on ScyFy.

The anime is based on a manga by Daisuke Moriyama (World Embryo), which ran in Dragon Age from November 1998 to June 2004 with 8 volumes. The anime series, which was animated by Gonzo (Vandread, Gate Keepers, Gantz) and directed by Yuu Kou (Giant Killing, Loveless), ran in Japan on Fuji TV from November 2003 to June 2004 with 24 episodes.

In North America, the manga was licensed by ADV Manga, and the anime was previously licensed by ADV Films, but then rescued by FUNimation. In 2006, it aired on Showtime Beyond. The anime and manga follows an organization who hunt demons.

Other anime previously aired on Ani-Monday include Dead Leaves, Appleseed, Descendants of Darkness, El-Hazard, Galaxy Express 999, Ghost in the Shell, Kai Doh Maru, Monster, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Macross Plus, Ninja Scroll, Rave Master, Tokko, and X.

ANN now streaming Romeo X Juliet, Project Blue Earth SOS, and Moeyo Ken (OVA)

ANN, AKA Anime News Network, has added more anime series to their online streaming sites. ANN is streaming all 24 subbed episodes of Romeo X Juliet, and the first 4 dubed, all 6 dubbed episodes of Project Blue Earth SOS, and all subbed and dubbed 4 episodes of Moeyo Ken.

Romeo X Juliet is a historical romance anime based on the classic play by Shakespeare. Animated by Gonzo, it ran in Japan from April 2007 to September 2007. It also spawned a manga series by Reiko Yoshida, which began running in Monthly Asuka magazine in 2007, and is still going with over two volumes.

In North America, the anime is licensed by FUNimation. The manga was recently licensed by Yen Press.

Project Blue Earth SOS is a sci-fi anime series. It ran in Japan from July 2006, to December 2006. All the episodes were an hour. It was animated by A.C.G.T., whom also animated Koi Kaze.

In North America, it was licensed by ADV Films, but is now licensed by FUNimation.

Moeyo Ken is fantasy OVA based on the PC game. In Japan, it was released November 2003, and animated by Trinet Entertainment. Later on in 2005, it was remade into an anime series, which ran from July 2005 to September 2005 with 13 episodes, and was also animated by Trinet Entertainment.

In North America, the OVA is licensed by ADV, and the anime series is licensed by FUNimation. The PC game has yet to be licensed.

ANN, AKA Anime News Network, is now streaming subbed and dubbed episodes of Last Exile. All 26 episodes subbed, first 4 dubbed. This one is a fan favorite.

Last Exile is a Adventure fantasy anime series that ran in Japan from April 2003 to September 2003. It was animated by Gonzo, who also animated Vandread, Kiddy Grade, and Afro Samurai.

 

 

In North America, it was licensed by Geneon, but after Geneon lost the rights, FUNimation got it. On TV, it aired on the G4 channel.

ANN now streaming Digimon Adventure 02 and Pumpkin Scissors

ANN, AKA Anime News Network, has added two more anime to their streaming site: Digimon Adventure 02 and Pumpkin Scissors. ANN has added al 50 subbed episodes of Digimon Adventure 02, and the first 4 dubbed episodes of Pumpkin Scissors out of 24.

Digimon Adventure is the second anime series based on the Digimon franchise. The first anime, Digimon Adventure, ran in Japan from March 1999 to March 2000 with 54 episodes. It also spawned a manga and two anime films. Digimon Adventure 02 ran in Japan from April 2000 to March 2001. It spawned a manga and two anime films. Both series are animated by Toei Animation, famous for Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon.

In North America, both series were licensed by Disney, and aired on Fox Kids, Toon Disney, and Disney XD. Recently, FUNimation re-licensed Digimon Adventure 02, and is now streaming it. The manga are licensed by Tokyopop.

Pumpkin Scissors is drama war anime series based on the manga by Ryoutarou Iwanaga. The manga started in Japan in Magazine GREAT on 2002, but when Magazine GREAT was cancled in 2006, it moved to Monthly Shonen Magazine, where it is still going with over 10 volumes. The anime ran in Japan from October 2006 to March 2007, and was animated by AIC and Gonzo.

In North America, the manga is licensed by Del Rey. The anime was licensed by ADV Films, and was re-licensed by FUNimation.

ANN, AKA Anime News Network, just got a few more anime series on their website, which you can watch for free. They got Desert Punk and La Corda D’Oro ~primo passo~. ANN is streaming all 24 episodes of Desert Punk subbed, first 4 dubbed. La Corda D’Oro has all 26 subbed episodes up.

Desert Punk is a 24-episode sci-fi anime series based on the manga Usune Masatoshi. The manga began in Comic Beam in 1997, and is still going with over 13 volumes. The anime ran in Japan from October 2004 to March 2005, and was animated by Gonzo, also known for Hellsing.

The anime is licensed in North America by FUNimation, and the manga has yet to be licensed in North America.

La Corda D’Oro ~primo pass~ is a romance anime based on the manga by Yuki Kure, which in turn is based on the Japanese video game series. The manga began on March 2004 in LaLa Magazine, and is still going with over 13 volumes. The anime ran from October 2006 to March 2007. It was animated by Yumeta Company. It got a sequel anime series, which began in March 2009, and is still going.

In North America, the manga is licensed by Viz Media. The anime is licensed by Sentai Filmworks. The sequel anime and video games have yet to be licensed.

ANN now streaming dubbed Ouran HS Club, Guyver, Red Garden, and Shakugan no Shana

ANN has just gotten more dubbed anime for those who prefer dubs to subs. They include the first 4 dubbed episodes of Ouran High School Host Club, the first 4 dubbed episodes of Guyver, the first 4 dubbed episodes of Red Garden, and the first 4 dubbed episodes of Shakugan no Shana.

Ouran High School Host Club is a 26-episode comedy anime series based on the manga by Bisco Hatori. The manga started in 2003 in LaLa magazine, and is still going. The anime ran in Japan from April 2006 to September 2006, and was animated by BONES, also known for animating Fullmetal Alchemist.

The manga is licensed in America by Viz Media, who have released the first 14 volumes. The anime is licensed by FUNimation. It follows the misadventures of a bunch of rich, kinda snobbish students who force a female student to be a host in exchange to pay off her debt. ANN is already streaming all 26 episodes subbed.

Guyver, AKA Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor, is a 26-episode sci-fi anime series, based on the manga by Yoshiki Takaya. The manga series began in Shonen Captain magazine in 1985, and when the magazine closed on 1997, it moved to Shonen Ace magazine, where it is still going with 27 volumes. The manga has spawned a 1986 anime film, a 12-episode OVA, two live-action films, and the 2005 anime series that ANN just got. It is animated by Oriental Light and Magic, famous for Pokemon and To Heart.

The manga was licensed by Viz Media, but was canceled after about 10 volumes, and the anime is licensed by FUNimation. It follows the adventures of a high-school student who finds a mysterious armor that bonds with him, and now he is the target of an evil organization.

Red Garden is a 22-episode supernatural anime series based on the manga, which ran in Comic Birz from August 2006 to January 2009 with 4 volumes. The anime ran in Japan from October 2006 to March 2007, and was animated by Gonzo, also known for Gate Keepers. There was also in OVA in August 2007, also animated by Gonzo.

The anime and OVA are licensed in America by FUNimation. The series is about four girls who get amnesia, and then discover that a friend was found dead. It turns out that they are all dead, and that if they don’t do what a mysterious lady says, they’ll vanish!

Shakugan no Shana is a 24-episode fantasy anime series based on the manga series by Yashichiro Takahashi, illustrated by Ayato Sasakura, which in turned is based on the light novel series by Yashichiro Takahashi, illustrated by Noizi Ito. The light novel series began in 2002, and is still going, and the manga began in Dengeki Daioh on February 2005, and is still going with 8 volumes. The manga spawned an anime series, which ANN just got, some video games, an anime film, two OVAs, a second anime series, and a spin-off manga series.

The anime series ran in Japan from 2005 to 2006, and was animated by J.C. Staff, also known for doing Azumanga Daioh and Ghost Hunt. The second anime, also animated by J.C. Staff, ran in Japan from 2007 to 2008 with 24 episodes. The anime film, also by J.C. Staff, was released in Japan on April 2007. The two OVAs were also animated by J.C. Staff, and the first was released on December 2006, and the second on October 2009. The spin-off manga started in 2007, and is still going.

In America, the manga and light novels are licensed by Viz Media. Both anime series, both OVAs, and the film are licensed by FUNimation. The franchise is about a red-haired girl who hunts what she calls “Denizens of the Crimson Realm”. The franchise is very popular.
